Community Highlight: September Events

In this community highlight, we're letting you know about four events in and around Lexington that you might want to put on your calendar. We've included something for everyone, so whether you're young or old, with or without children, please take a look! There's even a fun event for you and your favorite four legged friend (unless that friend is a cat--you'll probably want to sit this one out ;-) ).

16th Annual Doggie Paddle

What: A splashing good time for you and your pup! The Doggie Paddle will be held at the Woodland Aquatic Center in Woodland Park and is a chance for your dog to swim with other dogs. Enjoy pet-related vendors, games, food, and drinks; shop our LHS merchandise; and mingle with fellow animal lovers. Proceeds benefit Lexington Dog Parks and the Humane Society

Where: Woodland Aquatic Center, 601 E High St, Lexington, KY 40502

When: Saturday, September 10, 9-4

Price: 9 – 11 a.m.: $25 for the first dog; $20 for each additional dog; 11:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.: $15 for each dog; 1:30 – 3:30 p.m: $10 for each dog

Festival of the Horse

What: Celebrate the role of the horse in the history of Scott County. Features exhibits, concessions, arts and crafts, a carnival, and a 5k run (and much more). Stage entertainment provided throughout the festival! Please check their website for a detailed schedule of events. There's something for all ages!

Where: Streets of downtown Georgetown

When: September 9-11 with local firemen providing the kickoff in the form of a Chili Cookoff the evening of September 8th

Price: Free to attend. Pay per ride for Carnival Rides.

Devine Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch

What: It may seem a little early in the Halloween season to visit a Pumpkin Patch, but why not beat the crowds? Check out Devine's Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch for a day of fall family fun on a privately owned 100 acre working farm. It's definitely not all about the pumpkins! Explore the 10 acre corn maze, a petting zoo and ride a hayride to the pumpkin patch to get your pumpkin that is included with admission. This year, add some adventure with the Zipline Racers.

When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week starting 9/9 and ending 10/29

Price: 4 & Under-Free, 5-12-$8, 13+-$10

Cave Run Storytelling Festival

What: This event might be off the beaten path, but most of the time the best things are. Join America's most beloved storytellers in a beautiful mountain lakeside setting. Stories from a variety of regions and cultures are told in large tents on the shore of Cave Run Lake.

Where: On the shore of Cave Run Lake at the Twin Knobs Recreation Area in the Daniel Boone National Forest, eight miles west of Morehead, Kentucky.
